The challenge

Matter Prints is a Singapore apparel label that reinterprets textile heritage into modern clothing, working with artisans on traditional printing and weaving techniques. Its best-known pieces are relaxed, printed pants, alongside tops, jumpsuits and scarves. The story behind each print is the brand’s strength — and the hardest thing to get across in a two-second scroll. A first-time shopper sees a pair of patterned trousers at a premium to the high street, without yet knowing how the fabric is made, how it wears, or why it costs what it does. On paid social and search the label competes with fast fashion, global marketplaces and other conscious brands for the same attention. Left unmanaged, budget drifts toward cheap clicks from people who browse once and never return, and a shopper who is interested but not ready to buy on the first visit simply disappears.

02

The objective

Grow online sales profitably. Success was defined in sales terms: a return on ad spend strong enough to justify putting more budget behind the campaigns, and a store that converted a healthy share of the visitors that budget paid for. Because a considered, story-led purchase often takes more than one visit, a third goal sat alongside them — turning more first-time visitors into subscribers, so that shoppers who were not ready to buy on day one stayed within reach of new prints, restocks and the stories behind them, without paying again to bring them back.

03

What we did

We ran performance campaigns across Meta and Google Shopping and Search, with a clear job for each channel. Meta carried discovery, with creative that showed the prints up close and the pieces worn and in movement, so a new shopper could read the fabric, the pattern and the fit before clicking through. Shopping and Search captured demand that already existed — searches for the label by name and for the printed pants and pieces it is known for — with the product feed kept accurate so spend followed the styles and sizes actually in stock. Retargeting followed product viewers and shoppers who had added to bag, bringing them back to the specific prints they had looked at.

Underneath the paid work we strengthened SEO for the branded and category searches the label should own, so a growing share of shoppers arrived without a media cost attached. On site, the website and conversion optimisation work focused on the moments where a story-led purchase stalls: fabric, technique and care details placed beside the product rather than buried, sizing and fit guidance where shoppers hesitate, and delivery and exchange terms shown before checkout. Email capture was given a clear reason to sign up and placed where interested visitors would see it, feeding welcome and abandoned-cart sequences that worked alongside retargeting to follow up with shoppers who left before ordering.

04

The result

Over six to seven months the campaigns returned 3.5–5x on ad spend, the store converted 3.5% or more of its visitors, and the subscribe rate reached 15% or more — building an owned audience to sell to again without paying for the same click twice.
